Bob Elliott FRPS, EFIAP, APAGB - SOUTHAMPTON CAMERA CLUB
If the letters APAGB were awarded for photographic ability, they would have been appearing behind Bob's name a long time ago as we are all aware of the talent of this very fine photographer.
However the APAGB is not about someone's skill with a camera - it is awarded for meritorious service to clubs and Federations affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain .
Although, in recent years, Bob's name has been synonymous with The Royal Photographic Society, he has given sterling service to all photographers. There can be few clubs in the SPF who have not enjoyed his lectures or benefited from his wise judgements. He has also judged, at the highest level, and lectured throughout the UK .
Even more importantly he has encouraged many photographers to have faith in their own abilities and try for the various photographic honours that are open to them. He must take great pride in having been a mentor to so many photographers who have achieved success over the years.
When Bob's name was proposed for this award one of the PAGB Executive asked why it had taken so long? I could only reply that he is such a quiet, unassuming "gentleman" and they, sometimes, are overshadowed by the more "high profile" (but less able?) photographers around.
I was delighted when the PAGB, wholeheartedly, approved this award which was presented to him recently by our President, Anne Mahany, fittingly at a Southampton Camera Club meeting as he has been a stalwart of that club for so many years.

Footnote: Bob is only one of many people throughout our Federation who just "get on with it" and do not seek praise or glory. If you have one, or more, in your Club do not forget the Southern Fed do have a Roll of Honour, to recognise meritorious service to club(s) or Federation. Full details are available from George Walsh APAGB who you can contact direct on 01962 880527 or by email on Records@southphotographicfed.org.uk Nominations do not have to be made by the club though, obviously, it may be necessary to check with them details of service given by the nominee.
