Stan Webb, APAGB. Sadly Stan died on October 1st after a long illness. It’s hard to imagine a club evening without Stan, the man who would never say no to any request. To Stan everything was possible - the thirty hour day would have suited him. I first met Stan in 1975 and as a result, I joined Viewfinders and stayed. During all those years, both at our own Club and at Federation events, I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. (Sorry! He did about several of the Saint’s managers - in fact most of them). He was enthusiastic about photography and life right up to the end and he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and sympathy go to his family.

It has been my privilege to present Roll of Honour certificates to several photographers in the Federation – Ron Fowler and Jim Gaines, both members of Farnborough CC, David Taylor of Winchester PS and Maurice Pugh of Southampton CC. Some were at the September Quarterly meeting and others have been at their own Clubrooms. I feel it is far better and much nicer for the recipient to receive this honour in front of their own club members, so it has been decided that all future presentations will be made this way.

On November 6th, I attended the ‘Digital Day’ organised by Fordingbridge Camera Club. It was very well organised I might add for the lecture by Tony Riley. Colour management was the theme. I suppose most of us think we know enough about printing to make a reasonable print. Quite easy isn’t it ?. Well it should be now if you were there. I found Tony’s lecture clear and concise, with many explanations as to why things go wrong and most importantly how to ensure that results are correct and consistent. The Digital Projector used was the latest Canon and was visually impressive. The afternoon session concentrated on the use of RAW files, which I imagine are not used nearly enough. When you want quality with control why not use them. The Digital Day drew photographers from a wide area, many of them from outside the SPF borders, so advertising does pay - a packed house for an excellent lecturer.

It has been suggested that the SPF should reinstate the annual listing of the club events as previously put together by Glyn Edmunds. If the clubs would like this facility and it is a great help to club programme secretaries is there anyone out there willing to put it together?
Council members do not have the time to do this – it is an aid to clubs and not an essential part of running the Federation. We will already be seeking a new Treasurer, League Comp. Secretary and an Exhibition Secretary at next year’s AGM. Without a Treasurer to collect Club subs and pay our bills there will be no Federation, likewise unless others volunteer, for the winter of 2006/7 there will be no league matches and no Exhibition in 2007.
It is up to you the Clubs and your members.

Are there any volunteers out there?
We Need You.

We have been notified that the PAGB Print Exhibition WILL now be on display at Weymouth Central Library from 5th Dec – 21st Dec (including Sat. mornings but not on Sundays).
