SPF LEAGUE COMPETITION 2008/9 ENTRY FORM & RULES
Clubs will be divided into Regional Leagues, each competition consisting of 2 sections:-
- Prints.
- Slides.
Each club may enter 8 photographs in either or both sections. The nominated 8 prints / slides must be used throughout the entire competition. Print/slide lists to be returned by the 1st November
Each club will host one of the league rounds. Some clubs will be required to host an additional round.
The host club will be responsible for the following :-
- Booking the judge, who may not be a member of any of the clubs in their own league, or have any connections.
- Only judges listed in the S.P.F. Handbook or any other Federation’s Listing are permitted to judge.
- Arranging the fixture in conjunction with their opponents. (Confirmation of arrangements and a reminder before the event).
- Returning the appropriate result sheets, duly completed with the signatures of the judge(s) and a representative from each of the opposing clubs, within one week of the appropriate round to the Federation Competition Secretary.
- Ensuring that wherever possible, all Prints are displayed simultaneously.
- Host clubs are to provide copies of the score sheets (master copies provided by the Federation Competition Secretary) to visiting clubs.

No alteration to a print or slide is permitted from the date of the 1st round judging of that entry.
A member may represent more than one club, provided that totally different entries are used.
- Where a print and slide of the same image is made available to a club only one of those images is eligible in a club’s entry.
- Where the situation arises that a photographer has entries for more than one club the onus is on those clubs to ensure that no duplicated entry is selected in either a print or slide format.
- This rule only applies at the stage the work will be used in PAGB competitions: In the event of a photographer being a member of both 1st and 2nd place clubs (finals day), they will only be able to represent 1 club in any PAGB competition that they qualify for. The photographer must therefore declare which club they will represent, in accordance with the PAGB rules.
A member may submit a maximum of FOUR entries, but no more than THREE in any one section.
Prints or slides used in previous league competitions (for whatever club or federation) are not eligible, but no age limit.
All entries MUST be TITLED. The use of “UNTITLED” is not acceptable. The name of the author and its competition number must also be on all entries.
Prints and slides may be derived from any photographic process but the copyright of all parts of the final image must be at the disposal of the entrant.
- Prints including mount MUST NOT exceed 400 x 500 mm
- Prints and slides must not be presented in any form that could cause damage to other entries or equipment (e.g. Velcro or other such attachments to prints r loose labels on slides).
Slides must be in 50.8 x 50.8 mm mounts, and to be correctly spotted for projection. Card mounts are not allowed.
NO TITLES to be read out prior to Judging. Titles only can be read out after a score has been given with agreement of those clubs participating.
The scoring for each entry will be on the 1 to 10 scale. The judge may use half marks at their discretion.
The point allocation of matches will be as follows:-
The club with the highest aggregate score 5 Points.
The club receiving the next highest score 3 Points.
The remaining club (3 way competitions only) 1 Point.
In the event of a tie the points will be as follows :-
Three clubs with equal scores will each receive 3 Points.
Two clubs with equal first place scores each receive 4 Points.
In a 3-club round the remaining club will receive 1 Point.
Two clubs with equal second place scores receive 2 Points.
(The highest scoring club receives 5 points)
In each regional league the Champion will be the club scoring the highest number of points. In the event of a tie the Champion will be decided by the application of the following rules in turn until a decision is possible.
- The club with the highest marks received in the league match played between those clubs.
- The club with the highest number of individual scores of 9 marks and over in the league match between those clubs.
- In the event of those clubs still tying after a & b, ALL will go forward to the Semi Final.
Each Regional League Champion in both Prints and Slides will be awarded a Trophy at the annual S.P.F. Finals Day.
The Regional League Champions will compete in two semi-final matches on a knock out basis. The winning semi-finalists will compete in the Grand Final at the annual S.P.F. Finals Day for the Championship Trophies. The venue and the judges for the semi-finals and the final will be arranged by the Federation Council. In the event of a tie in either semi-final all top scoring clubs will qualify for the Grand Final, and if there is a tie in the Final for first place the award will be jointly held.
The highest cumulative scoring print(s) and slide(s) from every Club participating in the leagues, will be eligible to compete for the individual Trophies and will be judged at the annual S.P.F. Finals Day.
All Trophies / Awards will be presented at the annual S.P.F. Finals Day. These Trophies to be returned to the Federation Competition Secretary by the 1st MARCH of the following year.
The rounds will be co-ordinated by a Competition Secretary who will be elected at the S.P.F. Annual General Meeting. That person will be responsible for issuing and receiving all documentation, issuing league tables and updating the web-site as often as necessary, and reporting any problems, disputes or matters relating to the league to the S.P.F. Council whose decision will be final.
Any breach of these rules may lead to the disqualification of the clubs involved.
In all matters relating to the League Competition rules, the decision of the Council shall be final.
