Photographic Seminar - May 16 - 18, 2008

Dear Friend of Arena,

Press Release: 7th November 2007

Arena Photographic Seminar, 16th -18th May 2008

Arena is pleased to announce the 2008 Arena Annual Seminar, to be held 16th -18th May 2008 at the Riviera Hotel in Bournemouth. Now in its 22nd year, the seminar will continue the tradition of a weekend of photographic excellence and inspiration.

As always the weekend has been planned as an inspirational and instructive forum where amateur and professional photographers can share each other’s visions of photographic imagery.

We have an exciting programme of speakers planned. At present, we have provisionally booked the following acclaimed photographers –

Mark Power
Magnum member and Professor of Photography at the University of Brighton, Mark Power makes a welcome return to Arena. Well know for his monographs including ‘The Shipping Forecast’, he has two new books due to be published in 2008; ‘The Sound of Two Songs - Poland 2004-2008’, and ‘A-380’, about the development of the worlds' largest passenger airplane.

David Scheinmann
David Scheinmann is a London based photographer, commercials director and film-maker with UK European and US representation. As a film maker he has directed over 30 music videos and commercials and in 2005 completed his first feature film as director. His work in both photography and film has received a host of industry awards, and his limited edition photography is in numerous private collections.

Kay Halliwell-Sutton
Kay is a well known for her portrait, wedding advertising photography. A passionate photographer, she has won many awards for her wedding photography, including UK Wedding Photographer of the Year from the BIPP.

Dave Mason
One of Arena's newer members, Dave Mason's work is street photography for the 21st Century. Working digitally and in colour, his keenly seen and quickly taken pictures show that decisive moment photography is alive and kicking.

Tony and Eva Worobiec
Tony and Eva will be well known to Ufton regulars. Tony has authored several books on photographic techniques, and together they wrote the acclaimed 'Ghosts in the Wilderness' in 2003. They are currently working on a sequel to be published in 2008, and the talk will feature many images from the new book.

The weekend opens on Friday night, with an informal drinks session, which is a chance to meet other guests and look at the display of photos. On the Saturday afternoon there will be workshops led by some of our lecturers and Arena members. Guests are encouraged to bring their own work to display in our informal exhibition space and to present in the relaxed open session on Saturday evening. As usual, there will be the popular print raffle of work by Arena members and any guests who wish to contribute a print.

In a break with tradition, the seminar this year will be held in Bournemouth at the Riviera Hotel. We hope that the improvement in accommodation will make the weekend more attractive than ever. With the added bonus of Bournemouth’s sea front and extensive shopping, we hope that many guests will wish to bring their partners along for the weekend.

Places may be booked for either or both Saturday and Sunday. The accommodation package includes two nights (Friday and Sunday), and meals will be provided. Places are limited, so please book early and take advantage of our early booking discounts.

More information, including booking forms and the latest news, can be found on the Arena website at-

We look forward to seeing you in Bournemouth!
